In Honor of Dora Meccia
A child advocate's death must NEVER go in vain!
In the words of Annie Armen: “If there is one
program I am most proud of out of all the programs I
have ever produced on Annie Armen Live (AAL) within the
past 3 years, it is this one! Putting together this
four minute clip in honor of Dora was most painful yet
inspirational at the same time. Please join us tonight
together with Gloria Wright, AbleChild Founders
Patricia and Roman Weathers, Cofounder Sheila Matthews,
and others in loving memory of our Dora.
I cannot begin to tell you how difficult and painful
it has been for me during this past Thanksgiving week
after hearing of Dora’s death on November 21, 2004
Sunday. I simply could not proceed with any other
program without dedicating tonight’s program in honor of
our Dora Meccia – Child Advocate Warrior, Grandmother,
Parent, Best Friend, Confidant, an incredible lady who
NEVER ONCE seeked recognition for her works. Dora Meccia
will forever be referenced throughout my journey and in
all my works for Dora will NEVER be replicated again!
Because of Dora Meccia, I had the privilege and blessing
to meet her child advocate partner, close friend, fellow
warrior – Gloria Wright. Please, when you have a
moment after this program, I encourage AAL advocates,
supporters and listeners to visit AAL Jam Sessions 1 and
4; and Exposing the Fraud of ADD / ADHD Part 4 with
Gloria Wright and Teen Survivor / Hero NOAH Wright!
AbleChild writes: Over the years, Dora Meccia,
never wavered when it came to fighting to protect
children from forced drugging, whether it was children
placed in state care or those children forced to take
psychotropic drugs in order to go to school. This
unselfish drive of hers to help those unprotected and
without choice, continued to grow. At the same time, her
desire to further grandparent’s rights throughout a
system that many times disregarded the valuable role
that grandparents can play in a child’s life, was never
ending.
Dora was a tireless advocate who relentlessly worked on
getting legislative bills such as “The Child Medication
Act,” passed into law. Her determination led her to
reach out to many in order to help them fight the system
to protect their own children. What saddened Dora the
most were the people who contacted her that had children
placed in state care, children being drugged without
choice and without parental consent. You would think
that hearing from so many, for so long, regarding this
aspect would discourage her, but in reality it only made
her more set on righting an abusive system.
In one of her recent emails to us, Dora simply posed the
question that many of the most seasoned politicians, as
of yet, have failed to answer: “Are there any means
to pursue against a state agency that has allowed a 4
year old to be placed on psychotropic drugs against the
wishes of the parent and legal guardian?” This last
question from Dora lingers with us and we can only hope
that someday soon, it not only will be answered, but
that the answer will be pursued. We also hope that
someday soon, Dora’s goal, to safeguard what should be a
child’s basic right, the right to grow up drug-free and
healthy, will be realized.
