SPECIAL One Hour Tribute to
Christopher
Thrasher.
In the
words of Pam Thrasher: “Putting aside the
facts of
Christopher’s innocence, he
was only 16 years old when this crime occurred. He was
tried as an adult and sentenced to maximum security
prison FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE! Why ARE CHILDREN 16
YEARS OLD AND YOUNGER tried as adults? Why are they
continuing to sentence these children to prison for the
rest of their lives? A minor is defined as anyone under
the age of 18 years of age and prohibited by
law from doing anything that
ADULTS are permitted to do. Yet, when
accused of a crime, they are
deemed mature enough to pay the consequences as an
adult. Did I miss something? How can they be mature in
one regard and immature in others?”
Before you tune in to
this show tonight, have a tissue box near by. Annie will
read a heartfelt letter written by Christopher Thrasher
during the summer of 2004. In the meantime,
just to give you some insight into Christopher’s heart
and soul, here is a profound section
taken from his latest
poem titled “LIBERTY”:
“…As I reached out to place my own personal shackles
upon her hands, she unexpectedly disappeared from my
faculty of sight, like a sigh into the wind, and in a
weakened voice, that spoke of untold ages of injustice,
I heard an utterance that reverberated throughout the
garden, saying........ My name is Liberty!”
Annie Armen Says:
A most realistic portrayal of justice today for our
children nationwide tried as adults; a horrid reality
where money buys justice and those without material
wealth often find themselves deprived of “ethical and
proper” legal representation, at times falling prey to
conveniently manipulated facts within the subjective /
legal parameters of black and white letter of the law.
Such is the case for Christopher Thrasher.
